I don’t have much to say, I don’t know exactly how to begin this, and I’m probably just wasting my time telling you people anything, but something—or someone has told me to write this. In less than 24 hours we’re going to decide who our next president will be, and clearly our only options on deciding which candidate, is like deciding whether to stand in front of a speeding car or lay down on train tracks. We’ve had better options. Nonetheless, they are still our options.
Am I here to tell you who to vote for? Of course not! But I am here to tell you if you want our beloved country to become great again and stronger together, look to the One who brought us to this land in the first place.
What did you think General Washington did before he led his troops to Valley Forge, and likely to certain death? What did you think Lincoln did before he gave his Gettysburg Address speech? What did you think our grandparents did before they were drafted in the Second World War, and being forced to kill men who were trying to kill them? What did you think Martin Luther King Jr. did when he and a group of people walked down from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in a time where it was unsafe for any black man or woman? What did you think Neil Armstrong did while he was traveling up in the stars to a new and unsettling frontier? What did you think George W. Bush did after the Twin Towers collapsed? They prayed. They dropped everything and put their trust and faith in God. Today is a perfect opportunity to do so.
I’ve heard from my parents to take pride in our country and I’ve heard from my friends to look at our country’s mistakes. I’m sorry to disappoint both my family and friends, but I’m setting aside the pride and forgiving the mistakes, and giving my country’s life to the one and only Heavenly Father. For me, that’s the ONLY option. A lot of us have gone astray, and I’m not just talking about Atheists, non-believers, Agnostics, etc. I’m talking about Christians too. Christians who feel entitled over others, who talk the talk but don’t walk the walk, who say a wall is better than a bridge, who judge a person immediately by how they look or what they do, who have openly hated one person/or group of people, because of their opinions. I feel that we Christians have put too much pride in our country and not enough faith in God and these are the results of our carelessness:
· An incompetent President
· Mass shootings
· Sexual immoralities
· Letting the poor die
· Murdering unborn and borne children
· Denying any financial or health care help
I’m just as guilty maybe even more so, because I stood in silence while this all happened. It’s the silent ones who pay the steeper price.
Like I said, I could’ve done anything else other than write this, and believe me I wanted to. But I was told to speak, not for myself, but for all of you. It is said, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.”
“They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."
“—deny yourself and pick up your cross and follow me.”
This is only the beginning of the end, and there are already divisions among families, but take heart, deny your pride, your country, and yourself, and trust in Jesus. He will take care of you. I’m not so sure I can be any clearer than that.
Whoever becomes president, was meant to be. We’ve done our job as Americans, by giving our votes, now lets do our job as Christians, by giving our trust, faith, and lives to Christ. His way is not always our way, His timing is not our timing, and His Peace is not our peace. Let go and love during these loveless times. Something greater than this election, is coming…
What do you suppose God’s words would be in this kind of situation?
“Sounds like an opportunity.”
